There are images of the Four Gracious Plants in my fantasy:
The Cute One, the Graceful One, the Lovely One, and the Nostalgic One.
May I introduce my friends to you?
A cute, diligent plum-blossom that sports beautiful makeup earlier than anyone in early spring;
A lofty, gracious orchid alone even if nobody visits;
A lovely chrysanthemum that is fragrant in the crisp late autumn days with blue skies;
A nostalgic and calm bamboo that is not a tree or grass;
They are my friends.
Who is a friend?
A friend is another me with whom I feel close because he/she is similar to me; or sometimes, one that I want to be because he/she has what I don’t have.
Life without a friend has no meaning. There is no need to quote Confucius for that truth. We lead a meaningful life through close relationships.
I’d like to sit in the company of those four old friends those that I have cherished deep inside my heart and for a long time.
I’d like to talk about and share my favorite and romantic thoughts.
I’d like to write a poem and paint on paper using writing a brush and ink stick, and make images to see modern and ancient times as a whole.
Admitting the differences and diversity in all ages and countries I would like to present the metaphor for the beauty of all time.
Interpreting traditional images with modern sentiment and technique, transferring static space into dynamic spaces and flat oriental paintings into three-dimensional film, I made friends with the plum-blossom, the orchid, the chrysanthemum, and the bamboo. They are right for the task that imparts the sensibility of the artist as an historic metaphor passing through the eons, ancient and modern.
I, who exists in reality, dream and fantasize through oriental paintings, writing, and images.
